Great Artesian Basin, Central Queensland

The yellow area is the extend of the Great Aertesian Basin, the brown coloured rim is the water intake area for it.

The basin is subdivided into three sub basins, the Carpentria Basin in the North, the Eromanga Basin in the middle and the Surac Basin in the SE.

Most townships within the basin derive their domestic water supply from it, pumped up from down below.
In Winton water is pumped up from 1,000 metres down. It has a temperature of 80° C, but cooled down to 50° before it is distributed to all homes. The water has a wonderfull cleansing effect on the skin I find when having a shower. Also very pure, healthy and pleasant to drink.
