JD 1 - Years of training and travel
I was born in 1961, in Geelong, Victoria, Australia.
I studied at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) where I completed a Bachelor of Fine Art in 1982, majoring in Printmaking and Painting.

After my studies travel, discovery and adventure became paramount, as it was evident that I must discover what I liked, not what I was told to like!
I worked as a graphic artist, house painter, chef, hotel manager and presently run a small take-a-way food outlet in Wyndham a remote outpost in the Kimberley mountains in Western Australia.

For over 10 years I lived in the cities of Europe, America and Australia. The beauty I found was somewhat distorted. The urban landscape and its inhabitants were hectic and often tortured. My art work reflected this. In retrospect it was all quite gruesome. However I had much success in my solo exhibitions, culminating in such things as residence patronage in Florence, Italy.

JD 2 - Living in the bush of Western Australia

For the past 5 years I have lived in the country of Western Australia. Its beauty is overpowering. Originally drawn there by the discovery that I have Ancient Spanish blood.

For 5 years I have lived and worked on cattle stations and aboriginal communities teaching Art, and I feel a certain serenity in this quiet isolation. It seems that every bug, breeze and tree is essential.

Jane Dennis, artist

Reflecting the harsh immediacy of rural living I have chosen to simplify my mediums; using Lino relief printing, Aquarelle water colour pencils, Gouache and pastels. Also the smaller scale has allowed for exploring my detail.

Please enjoy the selection of this later work presented here.
