2. Scales are used to create melodies, chords and harmonies.

3. The Chromatic scale. It is less commonly known as the Dodecaphonic scale (dodeca = twelve).

1. Four pitches within the range of a perfect 4th (5 semitones).

2. Sixteen different scales can be constructed from the four tetrachords.

I have listed them below for interest. Some of these scales are very important in Jazz (shown in purple), but there is at this stage no need to learn them.
Don't be overwhelmed by all these scales. I just want you to grasp how easy they can be understood in terms of the tetrachords concept.

Underneath each name are the corresponding scale tones in the key of C.
