The Finesse
In an Indirect finesse a low card is lead up to a high card.
You try to avoid Opponent's high card :   ♥ 9 5 3     >     >     >   4 7 K

In an Direct finesse a high card is lead up to a higher card.
You try to catch Opponent's high card :   Q J 10     >     >     >   4 7 A

For a Direct finesse you need to have 4 of the top 5 (or 6) cards in the combined hands.
