The Multi-2♦ Opening bid - Facts sheet

The Multi-2♦ combines at a minimum the Weak Two opening bids of 2♥ and 2♠ plus the strong 2NT (21-22 pts). This frees up the 2♥, 2♠ and 2NT Opening bids for other purposes.

I have added one more option, by including hands with 4441 distribution and 17+HCP.
This removes these types of hand shapes from the 2♣ (Game forcing) Opening bids.
(All NT rebids by a 2♣ Opener therefore promise 23+ pts and an unambiguously balanced hand.)

Here are the SOCIAL BRIDGE CLUB options for the Multi-2♦ Opening bids :

  1. a weak 6+card major ( or ♠) of 6-10 HCP,

        such as :   ♠ 8 2   ♥ A Q 9 8 5 2   ♣ J 10 6 4   ♦ 7

  2. or a strong balanced hand of 21-22 HCP,

        such as :   ♠ A 10 2   ♥ A Q 9 8   ♣ A 8 6 4   ♦ A K

  3. or a strong 4-4-4-1 shape with 17+ HCP, and a singleton

        such as :   ♠ A K 9 5   ♥ 4   ♣ A Q 8 3   ♦ K Q 10 4

The three standard Responses are :

a. 2♥ with 0-11 HCP = asking the Opener to "Pass or Correct"
        For example :   2♦2♥   with   ♠ K 5 2   ♥ 9 6   ♦ A Q 8 3   ♣ 10 6 4 3

b. 2♠ with 9-11 HCP = interested in 4♥ only, but not in ♠
        For example :   2♦2♠   with   ♠ 2   ♥ K J 9 6   ♦ A Q 8 3   ♣ 10 6 4 3

c. 2NT with 12+ HCP = "Strong Enquiry", interested in Game opposite a weak 2
        For example :   2♦2NT   with   ♠ K 5 2   ♥ 9 6   ♦ A Q 8 3   ♣ A 6 4 3
