 The Two-way finesse
Declarer can finesse the for the Q♣ in either direction, a so-called "two-way finesse" holding in ♣. Which way to take this finesse is not a matter of which way it will win, but which way it is safe to play the finesse. Declarer must Safeguard his unprotected K♠, by finessing South (the Danger man) for the Q♣. Lead therefore East's J♣ for a direct finesse in ♣. If North wins the trick, Declarer's K♠ will remain safe.
