Hold up or not ?.
The hands are almost identical to the ones in Deal 3, except that this time the finess in ♦ has to be taken the other way ! This means that if the finesse fails it will be North (with the probable 5-card ♣ suit) that will gain the lead.
In this scenario Declarer holding up the first ♣ trick will not safe the contract. Instead Declarer must win the first trick with his Q♣. Now, if North gains the lead, Declarer's K♣ is not indanger of being caught, for North either has to lead his A♣ or lead away from it.
