Whether to hold up or not can depend on the finesses Declarer intends to take.
- In this Deal if a finesse may lose to South you want to hold up.
- If on the other hand it may lose to North there is no point in holding up.
In this game there are two possible finesses Declarer can take. The ♠ finesse will lose to North, the ♣ finesse Declarer can take in either direction.
The best choice in this case is not to hold up and take the ♣ finesse so that it loses to North if it fails.
