Goya painted this famous nude for the Spanish King. He also painted a clothed version, hanging in front of the nude at the Palace. The King could roll the front painting aside when he wanted to admire the nude version in private.
Visiting the Prado museum and the Royal Tapestry Factory were the highlights of out trip to Madrid in 1978. Goya painted the tapestry designs while his mistress was in charge of the Factory. This colaboration still goes on to this day, with Goya's designs still being used, long after both have died. I experienced this as something woderfully romantic.
